Yesterday I shared 10 things we DON’T spend money, but here are 10 things we DO spend money on.

  • Cell phones – People lived a long time without phones and I know they’re not a necessity, but they sure are handy!
  • Air conditioning – We could save about $60 a month in the summer if we didn’t use our air conditioning, but it’s a luxury that we take advantage of. :) Here I have some tips for saving on ac costs.
  • Netflix – Lately we’ve been trying to decide if we want to keep spending $8 a month on this, but for now, we’re keeping it.
  • Quality running shoes – Cameron really feels it’s worth spending a little more on good running shoes, we don’t buy the most expensive brands, but we don’t buy the cheapest either.
  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts - I have bought the cheaper bone-in kind before, but I really prefer the boneless skinless, because it’s just so much easier, so I usually opt for that, even though it costs a little more.

  •  Diapers and wipes (well not anymore,  but when Gracia was smaller) – I tried cloth diapering for a few days, but it didn’t go as I had planned. I’m not giving up all hope though I might try it again with future babies…we’ll see.
  • Vitamins – We figure keeping ourselves healthy can save money later on, on doctor bills.
  • Yarn – What can I say, it’s my weakness. :)

What are some areas you choose to spend your money on?

  1. I hear ya!
I’ve found the last year’s model New Balances for under $50 at Sports Authority, plus you can usually get coupons.

  2. DH’s cell phone is a necessity. He’s a professional driver. Air conditioning is a must too. My DH works in the heat. He comes home heat beat a lot.

Netflix- Love Netflix. DH & I love our movies and to stream TV shows. We do the DVD & Stream service. I do get DVD’s from the library.

I buy boneless chicken too. I never thought of it as spending extra money. I guess in the area I live chicken is pretty cheap. We have a lot of poultry plants in the Ozarks.

I used disposable diapers too. I really struggled with that decision because I am a tree hugger and frugalite. I was using the laundromat at the time. Cloth was not really feasible for me even though I know a lot of Mothers use cloth and still use the laundromat. I did make my own wipes. Son was allergic to the store bought kind. I use baby wipes now because it’s actually more frugal for me as an artist. I would ruin a lot of rags and cloths if I didn’t.

I buy vitamins too. Craft & art supplies are my weakness, like your yarn weakness. :) I always use coupons, Ebay, thrift stores & never ever buy retail. I have an art studio estimated around $50,000. I paid about $8,000. I also love jewelry but I buy all my pieces below cost but occasionally I will splurge on a good piece.

I used to love to eat out. I could play the game where it was cheaper than cooking a meal. I could get good nutritious meals too. Now, my DH & I love to eat in because with the recession restaurants are not that good any more, least for us.

Other things I pay for are hot water. I won’t skip on that one. I collect dolls. The doll market can be fierce so I do have to pay retail. Finding good deals on dolls is very hard but it has happened. I keep a strict budget for my dolls.
