FoodWasteFriday

This week I’m tossing:

  • Leftover smoothie – I usually put that into popsicle molds for a healthy snack for Gracia, but my mold was full at the time.
  • A whole batch of German potato salad – I feel bad about this. The potatoes didn’t quite get soft enough and I tried using apple cider vinegar instead of regular vinegar, which resulted in a very strong vinegar taste, so I’m throwing it all out. :( And those were red potatoes from my bountiful basket.
  • I also have 2 artichokes that I think will probably end up in the trash too. They were from my first bountiful basket and I kept putting off cooking them until they were getting a little brown. Then I steamed them up and they got even browner and since I’ve never cooked with raw artichoke I’m not sure if that’s normal or if I just waited to long to cook them…but I have a feeling they’ll end up in the trash. On the good side, out of the 2 bountiful baskets I’ve gotten, the potatoes and artichokes are the only things I’ve wasted so far…I feel like that’s not too bad, although it definitely leaves room for improvement!

Now for the good news! We’ve been accepted to start our missionary training with New Tribes Mission in August!! We are SOOOOO pumped! This will mean moving to Missouri where the training center is. We’ve been desiring to go into foreign missions since before we got married, and now that we’re finally going to the training center it feels like it’s FINALLY becoming a reality! :)

  1. Wow! Congratulations on your acceptance. What a huge step.

  2. Congratulations! What happy news for you!

  3. How exciting! Our church supports New Tribes. We have a missionary family from our church go through their program and serve. Now they teach at New Tribes.

    • That’s so cool! Where do they teach? In Missouri or at one of the Bible schools? I might know them, we went through the Bible school in Wisconsin a few years ago and I know some of the staff in Missouri.

  4. Congratulations on your acceptance!

  5. I glad things are finally coming together for you missionary work. Do you have any idea where you might go?

    • We really have no idea yet. Although I would love to go somewhere in South America, since I grew up there, but we’ll see.

  6. Congratulations! I am so excited for all of you. Your going to be right by me. :) I am in the Ozarks too. Least I think that is where New Tribes Mission is or I am thinking of another mission. If your moving to the Ozarks you will love it here. Cost of living is cheap. We don’t have a Bountiful Missions in Missouri. :(

    • I was wondering about the bountiful baskets. :( I’ll miss them. But there is Aldi there right? We don’t have an Aldi here, but I wish we did!
And I actually have lived there before. When I was in 1st grade my family went through the training there, and it’s a beautiful place!

      • Lots & lots of Aldi’s. There is one in Carthage. I think that is close to where you will be. Two in Springfield, One in Bolivar & Lebannon.
