Several months ago I accidentally dropped my camera on our laptop keyboard. The good news was that my little camera was fine, the bad news, was that our most used laptop was not. It still worked, but the screen was crazy looking. We continued to use it some, but the screen was hard to use, especially when trying to look at pictures, so we resorted to mostly using our little white laptop. Then Cameron decided to pull apart the big computer and he found a part that he thought might have been what had gotten damaged. He was able to find a replacement part online for about $7 including shipping. We figured if it didn’t work, we’d just be out $7. And guess what? It worked!!! I’m so thankful for a man who was willing to pull apart our computer and try to figure the problem out himself! Now I can happily say, I’m back blogging on the big laptop again!

Great job! I am so glad to hear other people are tackling repairs like this. Most folks, when they see the factory seal on something, figure that it is too technical for them to try and repair. My husband and son are the techies in our family. My husband was able to repair one computer by taking parts out of another old computer and kept us online for another couple of years. When the fan on my sons laptop went kaput, he ordered a new fan online and replaced the old. He also upgraded the memory by installing an extra memory card (I think that’s what it was called), making his less-workable computer into something highly functional. Again, great job on fixing your own computer, just think of the $$$ you saved!
Good job to you too! Great idea of using one computer’s parts to repair another!
Woo Hoo! Score one for the fix-it crowd!
I am a big believer in fixing things, especially computers because it’s just SOOO much cheaper. I actually still have a desktop because it’s much easier to replace parts when they go bad, plus you can just upgrade it when it gets old instead of replacing it.
Yay! That’s awesome!
