This is a good pattern if you’re a newbie at crocheting, as it’s pretty simple. I used 2 strands of yarn at the same time to make it extra thick.
What you’ll need:
- Crochet hook size H
- 2 colors of worsted weight cotton yarn (or you can do 2 strands of the same color if you want) Make sure to use 100% cotton yarn for this project, as certain types of yarn can melt when they get too hot.
Pattern:
Chain 25
Turn and sc in second chain from hook. Continue sc in each chain until end (24 sc)
Chain 1, turn and continue with sc (single crochet) in each chain until end (24 sc)
Continue this until the pot holder is a perfect square (about 23 rows).
Continue this until the pot holder is a perfect square (about 23 rows).
For the border don’t tie off the yarn, just start sc in each stitch around the whole pot holder. When you get to the corners sc 3 times in the corner hole.
When you’ve gone all the way around tie it off.
To make a loop to hang it with, slip stitch one of the colors of yarn onto a corner and chain about 12 times then slip stitch and tie onto the same corner of the pot holder.
This can be used as a Christmas, birthday or wedding gift, especially if you use the person’s favorite colors and you could even make a set with a couple of pot holders, a couple of dish cloths and a cute dish towel.
Hope those instructions make sense!
Happy Crocheting!! By the way, if any of you do actually make this pattern, I would LOVE to see a picture of the finished product!
