Today I thought I’d take a little break from the frugal posts to write about something much more important.

To sum up the Bible (which is pretty hard, it’s a big book!), God made everything including the first 2 people, who chose to sin, rather than obey God. Every person since them has had a sinful nature. It’s not that we just might do a little sin here and there, but that our whole nature is sinful.

In the Old Testament God gave the Israelites rules and sacrifices to keep, and you know what? They never could keep them fully. Then when Jesus, God’s Son, came He blew those laws out of the water saying that it wasn’t just the laws that mattered, but also their heart attitude! He just made an already hard to follow law, even harder. What this is supposed to do,  is make us feel like it’s helpless, and that we couldn’t possibly ever be worthy! And we can’t! That’s why God sent his Son, the only person to never do anything wrong. He loved the world so much He willingly suffered and died. In the Old Testament the Israelites were always offering animal sacrifices as a symbol of covering their sins, but Jesus was finally the ultimate sacrifice, the only sacrifice that really paid for sins. But that’s not the end of the story! The best part is that 3 days after being declared dead, Jesus came back to life! He was seen by many people and then went into heaven. What does this mean? This means that He conquered sin and death! Something nobody else has ever done!

So how what does this mean for someone living in 2011? It means that we are all sinners, we cannot save ourselves from our wrong doings, only Jesus can. He has already paid the price for us, we just need to accept it. It’s as if I bought you a present, but you can’t have the gift until you take it from me. It’s already paid for, it’s all ready for you, but you just need to take it and enjoy it! When you do this you will have Jesus’s holiness and righteousness applied to your life, that means you’ll be able to go to heaven, and you’ll have God’s help in this life. You don’t need to do any kind of works or good deeds to earn this gift. What’s the most common verse in the Bible? John 3:16, which says that whoever BELIEVES  in Him can be saved. It doesn’t say whoever believes and then goes to church, gives to the poor, reads their Bible, and stops doing drugs will be saved. This bothers people, they think, “It’s not fair for someone to be able to have this gift and then be allowed to go out and murder people!” First of all, there still will be consequences to their actions, but it will not affect the fact that they’ve received God’s gift, why? Because it was a gift that none of us deserved in the first place! So all you have to do to receive this gift is call out to God and admit you can’t do anything to earn salvation, it’s only by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

Anyways…that got rather long-winded! But it really is something that’s important to me, that’s why I wanted to share it. If you have any questions just leave them in the comments section or email me at purposelyfrugal@hotmail.com.  I hope this helps any of you looking for the truth and I really would love to answer any questions as best as I can!
