We keep our house more or less tidy (emphasis on the more or less), but our shed…well that’s another story. I guess for me it’s easy to leave it messy because I’m not in it much and it’s easy for me to just ignore the disaster, but like Crystal Paine talks about in The Money Saving Mom’s Budget,  clutter can end up costing you money. Case in point, the day Cameron was finishing up cleaning out the shed I was planning on buying a new lighter (for our oven, I keep the pilot light off when not in use), but lo and behold Cameron found one in the shed! If we hadn’t cleaned out the shed I would have bought a new one, even though we already had one.

We also have needed certain tools before, but couldn’t find them and ended up just buying a new one. So I know from personal experience that clutter can sometimes end up costing me money.

Now onto the pictures!

Before

After

Now I just need to keep it this way! No more loosing tools and lighters…or anything else for that matter!

  1. Go to a bookstore. We used to go to Barnes & Noble all the time. We wouldn’t buy anything, just enjoy ourselves looking at books. Now we like to go to used book stores and pick out some cheap reads.
  2. Go on a walk. We actually just celebrated our 5th Anniversary by taking a stroll through a park and buying some street food, and I think it was one of my favorite dates yet!
  3. Go to the park. We mostly go to parks for Gracia’s sake now, but even before she was born there was this one really pretty park we liked to go to and throw a frisbee or do homework under a tree (it was when we were at Bible school).
  4. Go outside and do some star-gazing. We did this for our anniversary a couple of years ago. You never know, you might end up seeing a shooting star!
  5. Play a game at home. Some evenings we put on a cartoon for Gracia and play a game, right now our favorite is Carcassonne…although I usually loose….
  6. Watch a movie at home. We do this one a lot! Now that we have Netflix we almost never rent movies, but if we do rent something Redbox is a pretty good price.

My blog was having issues yesterday, so if you missed it, I’m giving away a copy of The Money Saving Mom’s Budget: Slash Your Spending, Pay Down Your Debt, Streamline Your Life, and Save Thousands a Year. Go enter yourself!

What do you like to do for free or cheap fun?

I was overjoyed when I found out I was going to get a free copy of Crystal Paine’s Money Saving Mom’s Budget: Slash Your Spending, Pay Down Your Debt, Streamline Your Life, and Save Thousands a Year to read and review!! This is the first review I’ve ever done on my little ol’ blog!

Once I got my pre-release copy I was so excited about it, I read it all in less than 24 hours! Over all I really liked it! I enjoyed the diversity of it, from couponing, to budgeting, to goal making, to organizing, to contentment. Crystal Paine writes from experience, in fact she paid 100 % cash down on their home by working and saving for it! Not many people can say that!

I have read many books on saving money and follow several frugal blogs (including Moneysavingmom.com), so I was curious as to whether I’d really learn anything new…but I did! For example, I didn’t know you could buy Nature’s Own bread at the dollar store for only $1! I also had never heard her idea of how to start a budget if you’ve never done one. Instead of starting you on a full fledge record-every-penny-budget, she starts you out smaller and has you work up to it. Their’s even work sheets in the back of the book for budgeting, writing down goals and a price sheet.

My favorite quote from the book:

“The less we spend on ourselves, the more we have to give to others.” – That’s what I want my life to be!

If you’re interested in buying the book you can get it here from Amazon. It’s due to be released on the 10th of January. As a bonus all the proceeds go to Compassion International!

Now the part I’m really excited about! I’m doing a giveaway for a free copy!!!!!!! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post saying you want the book and you’ll be entered in the giveaway! The winner will be announced and notified via email on Tuesday the 10th of January. If I don’t hear back from you in 2 days I’ll choose another winner. Since my blog isn’t very big your chances of winning are higher!!! :)

I was not paid to write this review other than a free copy of the book. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
